I'm spinning a thread here, perhaps two dissonant strands, but two of my loves, nonetheless.
I love cities. I've lived in cities as far flung as Abidjan and Athens and smaller ones like Pittsburgh and Lancaster, PA. I love the diversity, the architecture, the pure possibility and the inability to escape the reality of your neighbors. We're in it together...
So I've spent a large part of my education as well as my whole adult life in cities, with cities, about cities. I've learned a lot about community and economic development and exciting, innovative and participatory ways to strengthen the fabric of communities in physical and social ways.
I've also spent a lot of time working with my hands, primarily in fiber - specifically spinning yarn. I've been practicing how to take an old-fashioned 'homespun' art and give it a modern, artistic spin.
So - city spun. Two threads of my life, twining together.
What I Do
I make and sell yarn. I'm selling at art fairs, at
Knit One (the most amazing yarn store ever - it's in Pittsburgh) and directly from
http://zoukou.etsy.com.
I also work as a consultant to organizations working on urban issues. I have over 10 years of experience in nonprofit and social enterprise management, startup, strategy formation, board development and more. This year I stepped down from my role as founding director of the
Union Project - the most exciting organization ever. I'm still their biggest fan and you should be too!
